It's coming to an end: 20-Time Individual Refelction

A recap of what my project is all about:
I decided to host two different cleanups. One was a beach cleanup at Capitola Beach last Friday, May 19th, and the other was a county wide river cleanup on Saturday, May 20th. I chose idea after countless of other failed attempts for this project. I wanted to impact the bay area, and besides having cleaner beaches and rivers, the main goal was to educate students about the importance of clean bodies of water and be one step closer to a pure environment. Below are the flyers I made for the two events to get the word out.

My initial plan for this project is not the plan I ended up doing. If you look back on my last few post about my 20-Time, they've been changing since day one. When I finally settled down on this idea, its was already the midway point of the project. For the goal of my project, I knew that if I wanted it to be successful, I'd have to spread the word out, hence the flyers. I wouldn't call this whole experience successful, but I ended up getting my act together and finishing strong. The river clean up was actually a hit! About 35 people from Saratoga High came and cleaned along side me at the Calabanza Creek, and 18 students when to the San Tomas Aquino River in San Jose. That's WAY more students I thought were going to participate. The beach clean up was a lot of fun too. We found three buckets (we didn't use plastic bags, we're trying to save the planet, not harm it) of trash! I want to start a school wide club called "Clean Waves for Babes" in the future. I think this won't be the last time I cleanup rivers and beaches.

I learned so many things over the past few months working on this project. One of the biggest skills I've demonstrated was perseverance. There were so many times during this, where I wanted to just give up and cry in a hole. But what good would that do? You have to keep pushing through if you really want to accomplish something or anything. If I had the chance to do this project again, I would have solidified the concept I was trying to work on from the very beginning to have an even better outcome that I have now. I also wish that I chose something that would impact Saratoga specifically. I definitely learned that I can't make decisions on the spot, but only after a long period of time, which sometimes can be good, but other times can be bad.

I started to begin a new challenge. It deals with the poor areas in Africa and how they don't have access to clean, safe water. Why should we get bottles of water from food machines, when they have to travel miles for potentially deadly water. I want to help make a difference with The Water Project (https://thewaterproject.org/). They are a friendly organization that wants to help those poorer areas have fresh water at their hands. I think I'm going to love working on this challenge and maybe grab a friend or two to help me out on this journey.
